Your students may have extra questions for you about portfolio of evidence.
You may wish to include some or all of the following messages in your communications with students and their families:
- Each student’s grade is based on a portfolio of three substantial pieces of evidence (or six pieces of evidence for Cambridge International A Levels).
- The work has all been marked by Cambridge examiners, just as work completed by students in exams is marked by examiners.
- Our examiners have given a mark to each of the pieces of evidence. These marks have been added together to give a final mark for the portfolio. All pieces of evidence count equally in their contribution to the final mark – each piece will be assigned a third of the available final mark for the portfolio.
- We have aligned awarding standards for students taking exams with awarding standards for students using the portfolio of evidence route, so that no student will be systematically advantaged or disadvantaged by their route to their grades.
- Using the portfolio of evidence route will allow pupils to progress to the next stage of their lives as quickly as possible.
You may want to share a reassuring message with students and their families before results day. This could include details about how the portfolio of evidence process works, how your centre has approached this task, what will happen on results days in terms of collecting results, and what support will be available for students to discuss results.
